I love the Coen Brothers movies, so I was thinking about seeing the new Ethan Coen film ‘Drive-Away Dolls’ this weekend.
But first, I did a search to read some reviews. A CNN ‘Opinion’ piece by a person named Noah Berlatsky popped up: “Opinion: ‘Drive-Away Dolls’ is DeSantis’ worst fear”.
Hooooo boy.
He calls the movie ‘wonderful’, but since the film’s story takes place in Florida, Berlatsky (who apparently considers himself some kind of savior and spokesperson for ‘LGBTQ people’) took the opportunity to write an anti-DeSantis screed. Here’s a sample:
Over the last few years, DeSantis has passed what critics call “Don’t Say Gay” laws that prevent discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity in many Florida schools, resulting in mass censorship of books in libraries and classrooms and predictably resulting in the resignation of LGBTQ teachers. Florida has also passed legislation allowing health care providers and insurers to deny care to LGBTQ people on “religious” grounds, and has made it illegal for trans people to use bathrooms consistent with their gender identity.
On the heist plot in the movie, he writes:
The money is nice in “Drive-Away Dolls” too, but it’s off to the side of the real promise, which is queer expression, queer community, queer love and queer lust without a judge or congressional delegation ruling you guilty.
Etc. etc. etc. You get the idea.
Here’s why people like Noah Berlatsky are my worst fear:
He’s the kind of person who purposely confuses ‘trans’ and gay. He uses the term ‘LGBTQ’ shrewdly, because although he knows what the individual letters stand for, it serves his purpose and transgenda to further the confusion.
He’s the kind of person who uses the word ‘queer’ incessantly—eleven times in this one piece—without caring that ‘queer’ is (and always will be) a slur directed at gay people. He has the nerve to scold people about homophobia while relentlessly repeating a homophobic slur. Breathtaking ignorance.
He’s the kind of person who laments ‘Don’t Say Gay laws’ but hypocritically never uses the word ‘gay’ himself. In contrast to ‘queer’, the word ‘gay’ never appears in his opinion piece—except once, in the phrase “‘Don’t Say Gay’ laws”. 🤦 For all his pearl-clutching, it is actually Noah Berlatsky himself who wants the word gay to disappear.
He’s the kind of person who wants elementary school teachers to have inappropriate discussions about sex with children and indoctrinate them with the fiction of ‘gender identity’. He cries about the loss of of ‘LGBTQ’ [read: activist] teachers—the kind of teachers who will confuse feminine boys into believing they are ‘really’ girls, and masculine boys into believing they are ‘really’ boys. He’s the kind of person who wants to trans the gay away in kids.
He’s the kind of person who calls other people smug while he smugly pats himself on the back for defending ‘LGBTQ’ (used five times in the piece) people. He does this somehow without realizing he is a gay person’s worst enemy.
He’s the kind of person who refers to castrations, breast amputations, and frankenpenises as ‘health care’.
People like Noah Berlatsky are my worst fear, because they claim to be my friend but they are not my friend at all. With their nonsensical beliefs, outrageous demands, and embracement of ‘queer theory’, they have sent the gay rights movement back decades; and through this association have brought hatred back to gay people in an ugliness unseen since the AIDS era of the 80’s. It is ironic that same-sex attracted people fought for the right to get married and now find ourselves, the LGB, in an unwanted forced marriage with the TQ. This is an abusive relationship that we want OUT of, but the Noah Berlatskys of the world latch on and refuse to let us go.
I live in Florida. I’m gay. I’m glad we have Ron DeSantis as our governor, and I’m glad he took a stand for parents’ rights to protect their children from the ‘LGBTQ’ cult. For this reason, I would have voted for him as President. Here’s an Opinion you’ve probably never heard: DeSantis was actually the most PRO-gay candidate for President. Because he’s the only one to acknowledge that biology is real, SEX EXISTS, and human beings cannot change sex. Gay people are same-sex attracted. When you deny sex, you deny gay people’s existence. Ergo, DeSantis was the most gay-friendly candidate. 🤷
I am a gay person, Noah. I am not an ‘LGBTQ person’. I am not ‘queer’. I am not your cause, we do not have the same goals, and I do not give you permission to speak for me. My life is not a shield for you to use to force through your agenda.
(I’m still deciding if I want to see the movie.)
Nuance is gone, and words like gay and queer have been corrupted by stooges like Berlatsky. The corporate media has done a great job of convincing clueless Democrats that Florida is a hellhole of homophobia and censorship. Even though I myself am a lesbian, my own family thinks I've turned into a homophobe and a fascist because I support the banning of pornography in Florida's public school libraries.
Good for you, calling him out. Now, how to get the well-meaning liberals to wake up?
Thanks for the info, Gary, it soothes my soul to hear a voice of reason in this insanity we're living in. I really appreciate your insight! My brain is having a hard time understanding how people can't see the harm being done to so many, especially children.
