I have an update on my situation at Disney.
Last week I received an email for a Zoom meeting with HR (with less than 24 hour notice), and I accepted. The HR woman who drew the short straw to contact me was actually really nice. “First of all, you’re not in trouble,” was how she opened the conversation. She explained that she was asked to speak to me to let me know all the leaders I cc’d had read my essay. She didn’t have any real updates or answers (so, no answers to the questions I posed in my piece) but she said every indication is that they are not changing their position. I said that I was disappointed and pointed out that it is unprecedented for Disney to take a side like this. And if they are not going to change their position the very very least they could do is issue an apology to their cast members (the majority, I believe) who they branded as ‘hateful’ for believing in this legislation, the Parental Rights Act. [She asked where I heard that and I told her it was in that internal ‘Reimagine Tomorrow’ video conversation they made.] I also told her that for Disney to say that the bill ‘never should have been passed’ and that they are going to fight to repeal it, is them taking a side against what many of their employees believe, and for this we are owed an apology as well. (How can they say we are all ‘included’ and heard if they are blatantly taking a stand against what we believe?)
I told her that unlike the ‘LGBTQIA+’ activists who pressured Disney and staged walkouts (if you can call them that; they timidly stepped outside during their approved break times), I did not make any demands. I asked questions, gave insight, provided links of useful information, and offered suggestions. I am trying to help. While these ‘LGBTQIA+’ activists were quick to make enraged assumptions and fly off the handle, I thoughtfully and carefully explored the issue and provided my informed opinions.
I reiterated how I was once proud and happy to work for Disney and thought I would retire there, but now no longer feel that way. She took notes on my statements and told me to feel free to contact her in the future.
So, it wasn’t a very informative conversation but I’m sure there will be more to come. There is A LOT going on in Florida with the dismantling of Disney’s special status and the signing of the Stop WOKE Act…so get your popcorn ready and let’s see how this all plays out.
People have asked how I’m doing and the answer is I’m doing OK. It feels uncomfortable at work a lot of the time, like I’m wearing a scarlet letter (D for Dissenter?) but I try to hold my head up high and continue to do my job. I even try to enjoy it.
Disney is a unique place to work in a lot of ways, but in other ways it is a typical workplace—there are coworkers I like and those I dislike; there are leaders I respect and leaders who are fake as fuck; there are executives who collect their massive paychecks and pretend they care about their workers but we know they only care about the bottom line.
I don’t know how long I will be working there. I go in every day wondering if it will be my last. I have a huge project I’m working on which I would like to see to its fruition, but it’s hard to not feel like my days at Disney are numbered. I do not feel like I ‘Belong™’ or that I am ‘Included™’.
But I am OK no matter what happens because I am at peace. I did what I set out to do, which was begin a conversation that was not happening. I don’t know how these executives and ‘Diversity & Inclusion’ leaders can sleep at night, knowing they are contributing to child abuse. I for one can rest easy, knowing I spoke up and did what was right.
It seems Disney is not going to change their stance on this issue, and neither am I. I am not done. I meant what I said that if they continue to push gender ideology, I will push back harder.
If you want to know what you can do, here is the email for Latondra Newton, ‘SVP, Chief Diversity Officer’ at Disney:
latondra.newton@disney.com
Feel free to flood her inbox with links to articles about woke homophobia, news stories about gender ideology being pushed in schools, first person essays from detransitioners, and posts from PITT.
In case she missed it, send her the recent excellent Newsweek article by Ben Appel, which makes a lot of the same points I made in my piece.
‘Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion’ is ostensibly her area of expertise, so make sure she gets this message:
Gender ideology is child abuse, homophobia, and misogyny disguised as ‘Inclusion’.
It is voices like yours that give me real hope the Woke religion will ultimately not prevail. So thank you for your courage in speaking up so publicly, and for your outspoken commitment to safeguarding the innocence of children. We need many more people like you in this world.
Happy to get your update. I wish more of us gay people would stand up to the radical alphabet mafia. Please know you are inspiration to many of us. I did cancel my 2 Disney annual passes. I wrote an email as instructed by the kind person on the phone requesting the cancellation. I never heard back from that email, so I instructed American Express to cancel all payments to Disney. I just received a letter telling me that my credit card had rejected their charge - LOL. Not one acknowledgement on their part that I was unhappy with them and had actively cancelled my passes.
