I attended Emerson College in the early 90’s because I was interested in a career writing for television, and Emerson was one of the few schools offering this curriculum. But rather than meeting other budding scriptwriters, I found myself mostly surrounded by performing arts majors. Sorry if this offends any actors or singers out there, but I think it is a true statement that performers are generally self-involved. (Having dated a number of actors/singers/dancers/comedians over the years, I have amassed a large enough sampling of data to feel confident in my assessment. And I have finally learned to steer clear of this ‘type’.)
On the first day of my freshman history class, the professor passed around papers for us to fill out with our basic information. He asked us to sign the bottom, and a girl sitting a few seats in front of me raised her hand. “What if you have three different signatures?” I rolled my eyes. A freshman, no professional credits yet to her name, but already apparently some sort of triple-threat superstar in her own mind, with three different ‘autographs’.
Nowadays you can encounter hundreds of eye-rolling moments like this as you scroll through your phone. Instagram ‘influencers’, TikTok ‘performers’, and YouTubers with no discernible talent but chutzpah to spare.
Here is how I see the world of social media: Everyone is a child doing backflips into the pool—“Look at me, mom! Mom, are you watching me?!? MOM!!! Look! LOOOOOK!!!” And a lot of us feel like the poor mom on the lounge chair, trying to enjoy her iced tea and romance novel.
People are way too into themselves. The internet and social media gave them license to practice this, and the Covid lockdowns exacerbated the problem. While we seem to have gotten the Covid epidemic under control, we are now stuck with an epidemic of narcissism.
We have far passed the Andy Warhol quote “In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes”. Fifteen minutes isn’t good enough anymore. Now every life is a 24-hour performance and every person is a superstar in their own mind.
In the quest to make a name for oneself, many people started to manufacture their own special identities. Because if no one is putting a spotlight on you, take the reins and put it on yourself! Enter the sudden proliferation of people identifying as ‘non-binary’. Or, as I like to call them, V.U.P.’s (Very Unique People).
‘Non-binary’ is narcissism. It is people wanting to feel unique and special, separate from the rest of us ‘normies’. That’s literally all it is.
‘Non-binary’ reminds me of those people who have common names and start spelling them weird, like ‘Khrystofur’ or ‘Psyndi’. People who want to feel unique without actually being unique. (Because being unique actually requires work.)
‘Non-binary’ people are akin to those wannabes who make TikTok videos of themselves lip-synching to other people’s dialogue. They desperately want an audience but have nothing original to offer.
But they persist. And in case you didn’t get the message that these are V.U.P.’s, they make demands that you memorize their ‘preferred pronouns’, thus putting them on pedestals. Just like when a celebrity is in the room, everyone starts to feel nervous in their midst. People comply in the guise of being ‘kind’. Why should we be kind to these self-involved assholes? We need to stop this madness of giving in to every narcissist’s demands. ‘Kindness’ is what got us into this mess with gender ideologues. Honesty is what will get us out of it.
Some of these people are simply run-of-the-mill gays, lesbians, and bisexuals. But those old school terms hurt their image. So they tacked on the ‘non-binary’ label to add some flavor (as I wrote about in Part One).
But even worse are the straight people who went to Pride celebrations with their ‘LGBTQ+’ friends and got jealous. “What about me? Aren’t I special too?” They weren’t satisfied with being an ally—no, no, they wanted in on the action!! It wasn’t enough to just come to the party and offer their support, they wanted to be included. So they adopted a ‘non-binary’ ‘identity’. And, astonishingly, rather than calling these posers out, they were WELCOMED by the ‘LGBTQ+ Community’. (I guess that’s what the vague ‘+’ is for?) This is essentially culture appropriation; cosplaying as a minority so they can be included in all the ‘fun’ of being oppressed without actually having to experience it. (I call these people FOMOsexuals.)
If you are a man who likes to wear nail polish, I have news for you: You did not create a new category of sex. You’re just a man who likes to have a bit o’ color on his nails.
If you’re a woman who doesn’t ‘feel’ like a woman all the time, what you’re really resenting is societal stereotypes of femininity. Absolutely, do not feel the need to follow these rules. But you’re still a woman.
Just because you reject superficial/stereotypical gender roles and/or adopt superficial/stereotypical opposite-sex gender roles, it does not give you the license to opt out of your biological sex. That’s not the way it works.
Men and women who deny they are men and women, and demand ‘they/them’ pronouns, are offensive to gay men & lesbians who have ACTUALLY faced discrimination for having same-sex attraction. Nowadays, people ‘come out’ as non-binary and are celebrated for their uniqueness—and then they whine that they are being discriminated against when you ‘misgender’ them. Spare me.
There’s a reason so many ‘non-binary’ people color their hair green, blue, etc. Somewhere in the deep recesses of their mind, they know there is no there there; they are merely men who are men and women who are women, period. Just like all the rest of us human beings. But this way they have something tangible to point to—”See! Look how different I am!!”
If they didn’t claim this ‘identity’ and didn’t make these demands, nobody would notice them because they’d be just like you and me. They WANT to be noticed. They WANT attention. They’re special, Very Unique People…they’re celebrities in their own minds.
And then there are the actual celebrities…who, as usual, are not helping. Demi Lovato, Sam Smith, Janelle Monáe, and complete nutjob Ezra Miller are a few who have announced ‘non-binary’ identities and they/them pronouns—and the spineless media dutifully complies.
Smith described non-binary as being ‘your own special creation’. Uh-huh.
Janelle Monáe one-upped Smith’s specialness, explaining, "I don't see myself as a woman, solely. I feel all of my energy ... I feel like God is so much bigger than the 'he' or the 'she,' and if I am God, I am everything."
Narcissism.
And, still, some of these celebrities seem to get confused over their own rules:
Because in the end, it’s not about some internal struggle; it’s about attention, and any way to get more of it.
I have yet to hear an explanation of non-binary that makes any sense. I have heard men explain that they don’t feel entirely like a man, and women who say they don’t feel entirely like a woman. Whatever that means. ‘Man’ and ‘woman’ are not feelings. They are biological facts. Sex is binary.
That parents, educators, ‘journalists’, therapists, and legislators are going along with this, without any questioning, is troubling. That our workplaces are welcoming this lunacy and trying to enforce us (with compelled speech) to accommodate these people—rather than turning them away at the door when they apply for a job—is appalling. That our government is validating this misogyny and homophobia should be of concern to us all.
I can understand how some teenagers would fall into this fakeness—they’re trying to find themselves, figuring out the world, and wanting to stand out from the crowd—but if you’re over 20 and still going around claiming to be non-binary, you should just be embarrassed.
Dear ‘non-binary’ men and women:
Just stop. Please. You’re embarrassing yourselves. Spend less time trying to force a fake ‘identity’ and start trying to cultivate a personality.
"That parents, educators, ‘journalists’, therapists, and legislators are going along with this, without any questioning, is troubling. "
This is happening because there is money/power behind it. promoting this. The is not something that happened organically. Today we see business acting in ways that are counter to profitability and that doesn't happen this quickly on its own, organically. The DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) ideology is being promoted at every level and within that is the gender non-sense along with the trans activism; they all fall under DEI. This is being promoted and supported within private business because a sizeable number of executives in these companies are woke ideologues.
The executive positions in large companies got filled by these woke ideologues because 5-8 years back the top 2 firms that deal in executive recruitment were purchased by a private investment group who afterwards changed how the executive recruitment worked. Moving forward it was policy to ensure that the first 3 candidates sent out for executive recruitment at any fortune 500 company had to be a woke ideologue, someone who if hired would help promote the woke philosophy placing it above everything else including profitability. Take Disney as an example. The CEO, Bob Chapeq was trying to move Disney back to a more centrist position so as o be politically neutral but the woke staff including much of those who work directly under him were ideologues and pushed back effectively forcing him to take a stance he did not want. I'm no fan of Chapeq but he's right about tis and has since been working behind the scenes to try and get board support to flush the executive ranks at Disney of these ideologues.
Unfortunately Chapeq is unique compared to other fortune 500 CEO's. The majority of these companies are filled with woke execs and the CEO is just going along or is themselves a woke ideologue. In addition to the executives the private sector has implemented something called the ESG (Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance) . This is a social credit score system for private business. It's being taken seriously because those behind the ESG have gotten lending institutions that these companies depend on to enforce it. A company might not be able to get a loan or at least pay a higher rate for it if they have a low ESG score.
The combination of executive infiltration and this ESG has forced companies to quickly go woke and put shareholders last and the promotion of the message first. None of this is organic but planned. With this pressure other institution like public education have jumped on the bandwagon. This has all been planned and rolled out by those with power and money in order to change society. The Great Reset is not some conspiracy theory. The World Economic Forum boss Klaus Schwab openly brags about it. It is a reset of society from independent nations with a single global governance where "you will own nothing and be happy". This can't be done in many western nations without first undermining those nations societies and that is being done using DEI at least here in the US.
A society made up of scared and confused individuals is much easier to manipulate/control than one made up of healthy families.
"Non-binary" also seems to me to be akin to a gateway drug to edgier, more "extreme" (or perhaps more work to attain & maintain) gender identities when being called "they/them" yet ultimately never being successful in being convinced that anyone seriously viewed them as neither male or female is no longer enough to fuel their narcissism. There does (IMO) remain a higher level of social cache for those who decide to go the whole hog and brazen out the REALLY bold-faced lie that they are somehow in fact a member of the opposite sex - both within the "trans" community and more broadly.. Which is odd for an ideology which makes the claim that biology is non-existent and/or irrelevant, surely?
